Getting Real

I’m just checking in quickly today to say hi (hi!) and tell you guys that you should really join us over on Snapchat. I resisted this app for, like, ever, but now it’s probably my favorite social media hangout. I love Instagram, I really do, but it’s become so overly curated and overrun with profoundly edited selfies, perfectly posed children, and images of immaculately clean homes that it has lost the improvised, genuine vibe it used to have. Don’t get me wrong – I’m guilty of curated images myself, and I love the fact that IG is so visually beautiful to scroll through. It’s become an aesthetic-driven micro blogging platform, which is awesome. But it’s a breath of fresh air opening Snapchat and seeing people just be themselves, in their messy homes and offices, with their messy families and messy lives, just getting real. It reminds me of the community feeling that both Instagram and the blogging world had in their early days. So if you’re on there, come find me here (or search for me under user name bubbyandbean). I’m not promising anything exciting, since most snaps are of Essley and I making funny faces with Snapchat filters or me making fun of the disaster that is known as my home or my friends and I possibly being semi-obnoxious after a couple of beers (I’m a cheap date these days) – but if you’re in the mood to see our “behind the scenes” real life type stuff, that’s the place to do it. (Top image is one of my actual Snapchat pics, in all of its blurry-texted, grainy, unedited glory – just to give you an idea of my maturity level over there. Yep.)

If you’re on Snapchat, please leave your username in the comments so I can find you!
